Aaron Kippola Photo Project

by Chris on Mar.14, 2009, under General Posts

I’m working with Aaron Kippola shooting pictures for his upcoming CD covers and web site under development by Middle Ear Media
Here’s a couple pictures from the first shoot. The location was a very old barn in an undisclosed location and I lit it with a Vivitar 280 shot through a 32 in. umbrella. Key light is from my Speedlight 580ex with a snoot to control light spill..
The first image here is a happy accident. Technically there’s no reason to have the light source in the image but I like the way it ended up looking…

I like the “happy accident” too. It doesn’t distract from Aaron. Instead, to me it says “hey, I can’t be bothered with all this photography stuff — I’m playing my guitar.”

I would have to agree with Sean in the case of the ‘happy accident.’ It’s stuck me because that light is so discontinuous from the rest of the space that I was drawn to that corner of the photo; and then almost instantly I became aware that Aaron is lit too… it all read like a poem. From there I then became very interested in what else was taking place in the scene… like that chair and the hay scattered around the base of the light…
